The Challenge

How do we transform existing homes to be more resilient to bushfire?

The Canberra Region Joint Organisation (CRJO) asked Edge Impact to help them determine the current and future natural hazard adaptive capacity of the Canberra Region’s current housing, develop a change plan that supports homeowners to act and create and deploy the Canberra Region Joint Organisation Climate Resilient Housing Toolkit.

Key Deliverables

Bushfire hazard mapping and vulnerability assessment
Climate ready-home specification
Behaviour change strategy
Brand development and toolkits for industry, residents and councils
Communication assets including film and social media

The Approach

This project focused on assessing and building the bushfire resilience of different dwelling types across the region. Our approach combined science, strategy and storytelling to deliver bushfire and hazard mapping, vulnerability assessment, economic analysis, behaviour change strategy, brand development and  communications.

The Result

Edge Impact has become a trusted partner of the Canberra Region Joint Organisation (CRJO) through the successful delivery of the Climate Resilient Homes Toolkit project. The project delivers clear guidance to homeowners, councils and industry on how to prioritise activities and investments, which increase community resilience to future bushfire impacts.

This project was proudly funded by the New South Wales Government, with assistance from Local Government NSW, the Minderoo Foundation  and the Insurance Council of Australia.
